A neuropsychologist performs tests of cognitive functions. That is, when people are concerned
about difficulties with their memory, concentration or thinking, a neuropsychologist can
undertake tests to evaluate these problems. Most of the people that see us have
experienced some kind of injury (such as in a motor vehicle accident) or neurological disorder
(stroke, brain tumour, Alzheimer's Disease).
The tests used in a neuropsychological assessment are all done with paper and pencil or a
computer - it is not a medical examination.
The assessment is very comprehensive and thorough and takes a number of hours to complete.
As a result, we make our appointments for 9:00 or 9:30 in the morning. Breaks are taken as
required and most of the time, the assessment is complete by mid afternoon.
Debbie Anderson is the principal neuropsychologist. Debbie may perform
the complete assessment by herself or, if it is necessary to attend to 2 patients in the
one day, Debbie may employ the services of another psychologist to assist. In these cases
Debbie performs the clinical interviews and most of the assessment while the psychometrician
administers some of the tests.
